Family Zen retreat May 11-13, 2012

The retreat will be held again at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island, in a lodge and cabins set in a mosaic of forest, meadow and beach, overlooking Puget Sound. We’ll have a family-friendly program of Zen practice, including short meditations in the zendo, walking kinhin on the forest paths, chanting, and dharma discussions. The more formal parts of the program are designed to accommodate both big and little kids and adults, with longer meditation periods for the adults as the kids leave for quiet play or dharma teachings.
The kids and adults will work together to chop and cook for our vegetarian meals, and to do small tasks around the lodge. The program also includes nature walks, art, games on the beach, stories around the fire, and plenty of time for running wild under the giant firs. The three-day program starts at 11:00AM on Friday with registration, followed by a pot-luck lunch. To close, we again invite the wider sangha and community to join us for Sunday lunch and a celebration in honor of the Buddha’s birthday.
Our theme this year is ZIP ZEN- together we’ll practice moving quickly and cleanly from moment to moment.
All are welcome; families and individuals of any faith or tradition can enjoy this practice of stretching our eyes, ears, and minds wide open as we work, eat, play, and sit quietly together for this spring weekend.
Prices for the weekend (Friday evening through Sunday afternoon) are:
Adults, PSZC members $120/non-members $140
Kids, PSZC members $100/non-members $110 (kids 3 and under free)
$50 additional program fee for kids 9 and up.
