IFCH dinners

The Zen Center has volunteered to serve dinner every 4th Thursday of the month (we start on December 1, then do the 4th Thursday schedule from December 22 onward) at the Presbyterian church as part of the Interfaith Council to Prevent Homelessness.

Thanks to all the many sangha members who have cooked and served dinners over the years! This winter our dates will be Dec 1, Dec 29, Jan 26, and Feb 23. Here’s what’s involved–we put together a team of 3-4 people for each dinner night, and divvy up the menu (e.g., one person may make a huge salad, one an entree, and one a dessert). Then you bring your food to the Presbyterian Church in town at 5PM, and help set up. Serving starts at 5:30, then we help clean up, and are usually done before 7PM. I hear from this year’s meal coordinator that attendance is running up to about 30 people.

Please consider bringing some food or helping us serve and clean up on these nights–even if you have never been to our zendo or sat with us before. This is a great opportunity to serve those in need on Vashon.

It’s lively, fun and rewarding- some people enjoy bringing their kids to help too. You can sign up here to help out, or call Sissel Johannessen (463-9326), or see the sign-up sheet in the Zen Center library.

More information on the Vashon InterFaith Council to Prevent Homelessness (IFCH): IFCH has provided dinners open to all Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Presbyterian Church, October through May, for the last seven years. See the IFCH website for more information about this organization and their services, and how you can help further.
