Intro to Zen

Several times a year, we offer a short introduction to Zen and Buddhism, as well as zazen meditation.  Our next one is on November 19th, 2011, 9am to 1pm.

Introduction to Zen: Principles and Practices

On Saturday, November 19th, the Puget Sound Zen Center will hold a half-day class on the principles and practices of Zen. The class will include an introduction to the practice of zazen (sitting meditation), background information on the questions of who the Buddha was and what he taught, a historical sketch of Zen Buddhism and the Rinzai tradition, and discussion of the basic principles of Zen.  The class will also discuss and practice aspects of the Zen form observed by the Puget Sound Zen Center, including tea, chanting, and zazen.  There will be ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

The class, led by Sissel Johannessen & Shana Hirsch, will meet from 9:00 AM to 1:00PM at the Zen Center. Please register in advance below.  If you have questions feel free to call 463-4332, emailing office@pszen.org. The cost is Members $20, Non-members $25.  Welcome!

So who are these awesome and interesting teachers??

Sissel: farmer, mother, caregiver, intrepid planter of daffodils, head of the kitchen at our recent retreat

Shana: farmer, carpenter, cultural geography buff, graduate student, just got off the phone with her Grandma in Scotland.
